The treatment usually focuses on relieving the symptoms and effects. If someone in your family has contracted dengue then it is very important that you take care of him properly. Rest, good diet and proper medication hold the key to get well from the condition. This article focus on how to take care of a dengue.

To maintain a hygienic environment at home

The first thing that you must do to take care of a dengue patient to maintain a hygienic environment at home.

  • Use screens on doors and windows
  • Use mosquito nets
  • Make use of mosquito repellents in and around the house.
  • Avoid water collection in any area in and around the house as mosquitoes breed in inactive water.

Enough rest and proper medical consultation

When the symptoms are noticed at first, make sure you get a proper test done to diagnose the problem. Once detected, consult a good doctor and get a proper medication chart and diet plan from the doctor. It is important to take the dengue patient to the doctor everyday so as to keep an eye on the fever and other symptoms.

Ample of fluids should be given

Another way to take care of a dengue patient as advised by doctors is giving them a lot of fluids from time to time. Water, fruit juices, soup and other fluids prove good as they prevent dryness and also flush out the toxins from the body.  You can also prepare a juice by making use of papaya leaves and give this to dengue patients once or twice a day.  Papaya leaves help to raise the platelet count which thus helps in recovering from the disease.

Given a good diet

Dengue patients must be given a good diet in order to get well fast. The diet must include foods and vegetables rich in Vitamin C, coconut water, herbal teas, vegetables juices, porridge etc.  Neem leaves, oranges and soups too are considered good for dengue patients. Remember not to give them any oily or spicy foods as these can be bad for the stomach which is a problem area among dengue patients.

Check the symptoms daily

It is important to monitor the condition of the patient as well as all the symptoms on a daily basis. Make a chart of the fluid intake, progress made by the patient, number of times urine passed, fever and other such things on a daily basis as these can prove useful for the doctor to give a more suitable treatment to the patient.

Take the patient to the hospital if symptoms worsen

If the symptoms worsen, then it is important for you to take the patient to the hospital immediately.

  • Continue vomiting
  • harsh abdominal pain
  • inability to pass urine regularly
  • bleeding from any part of the body
